That appears to be a somewhat unsophisticated version of Pascal's Wager.
Pascal did insist, however, that if you bet on God and he turned out not
to exist, then you lose nothing.

And he was as wrong then as the idiots who use it as a smug attempted
last word, are today.

Because he and they imagine there can only be one possible god to
believe in, and only one possible carrot and stick. And stupidly
project this onto everybody else.

Anybody who uses Pascal's wager should become a Muslim because at
least there's sex in the Islamic Paradise.

Not necessarily, you could still fall into the "avoiding the wrong
hell" trap.

There may be some, as yet undiscovered, deity with other
requirements for us. This deity may punish those who have followed
superstition for self reward and reward those who have made
decisions based only on the evidence.

Atheists may be the only ones who go to heaven, with all the rest
burning in hell.

Can you tell us for which god you want to know this ?

And why do you suppose that anyone would want to investigate on the
possible existence of those gods ?

There so many supposed gods, most of them exclusive from the others, and
very few proof than any of them would ever "exist" ?

What means "to exist" for a god ?

Dave,

This really is sad.

You moved away from being an atheist because you had a completely
erroneous understanding of how evolution works and therefore
couldn't believe it?

So, you took up a belief in god.

Bearing mind you were being so insistent on a full understanding of
evolution, can you let us have the good, convincing evidence *for*
the existence of this god, and why you chose this one and not one of
the others?

Bearing in mind your high standards, you obviously had a high
standard of evidence to make this decision, didn't you?

Maybe they think I have rejected God, but its much simpler than that,
I just realised that God does not exist so there is nothing actually
to reject. It was all rather untraumatic, more like "oh, God doesn't
exist after all" rather than some Damascus road experience.

For me it was like when I realised that Santa Claus didn't exist.
Although I was far more disappointed about Santa.
